We encourage all of our customers to manage their finances responsibly, and we understand that, at times, life happens and you may run short of cash. Thatís why we have a safety net program called Courtesy Coverage for your checking account.

Courtesy Coverage is overdraft protection* exclusively for qualifying customers which gives you peace of mind knowing that your checks and ACH (Automated Clearing House) debits will be covered up to a predetermined amount. With your approval we can protect your ATM and debit card transactions as well.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Courtesy Coverage

What You Need to Know about Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  • We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  • We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account, which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.
    This notice explains our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments (ACH and recurring debit card transactions)

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to (see below):

  • ATM transactions
  •  Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined. The maximum overdraft coverage will be limited to $150.00 or $600.00 for each account, based upon the amount of Courtesy Coverage that you have. Any new deposit into your account will first be applied to repay the outstanding overdrafts and fees. If you do not have enough funds in your account to repay the overdraft, then you must pay all overdrafts if any overdrafts have been outstanding more than 10 consecutive days.

What fees will I be charged if TheBANK of Edwardsville pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of $32.00 each time we pay an overdraft.
  • TheBANK has implemented a maximum of six overdraft fees that we will charge you per business day for overdrawing your consumer account.
  • If a transaction of $5.00 or less overdraws your account, you will not be charged an overdraft fee for that item.  If a transaction greater than $5.00 overdraws your account, you will be subject to the $32.00 overdraft fee for that item.
