ACS Farm to Table Event

The American Cancer Society’s 2019 Mission Partnership Award was given to TheBANK of Edwardsville during the “Farm to Table” Culinary Event at the Gateway Center in Collinsville on Thursday evening, August 8, 2019.  According to Mandie Ernst, Senior Manager of Community Development at ACS:

“ We started presenting this award a few years ago at the gala and are thrilled to be able to give it to one of our key partners in the fight against cancer here in Madison County and across the Metro East.”

To be considered for this award an individual or business must meet the following criteria:

  • They must sponsor multiple American Cancer Society events (so this could include Farm to Table, Relay For Life, Colors of Cancer, ACS Day at the Ballpark or any other event)
  • They must chair or serve on a committee or board for an American Cancer Society event
  • Their lifetime participation must exceed an aggregate of $50,000 (this can be through relationship building with other companies to support the American Cancer Society, sponsorship, and/or fundraising as an organization)

Other past winners include Simmons Hanly Conroy Law Firm, Gori Julian Law, Scott Credit Union and OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center.

During the past 20 years, members of TheBANK’s Relay for Life team have been active in significant fundraising efforts involving hundreds of employees such as variety shows, a basketball game, a tribute to Tom Holloway (retiring bank President), silent auctions, purse auctions, ACS Day at the Ballpark ticket sales, chili cook-offs, BBQs, luminaria bag sales, participation in various area RFL Walks, and most recently the Colors of Cancer event – all to help raise money for this important cause. In addition, Rob Schwartz, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking at TheBANK of Edwardsville has been a member of the Madison County American Cancer Society Board since its inception over 3 years ago, serving as the inaugural Chairman for the first two years.

Bank Associates

During the “Farm to Table” event on August 8th, while accepting the Mission Partnership Award on behalf of TheBANK of Edwardsville, Rob thanked all of the associates who have been actively involved in fundraising for ACS over the years.  He paid a special tribute to Laura Balster, Vice President of Item Processing/Intranet Editor, for her leadership role in many of these events.

J.J. Mueller, Maintenance Lead at TheBANK, was also recognized for being the top fundraiser in this spring’s Colors of Cancer campaign, designed to raise money for the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society through awareness and outreach.  Rob Schwartz invited J.J. Mueller to participate in Colors of Cancer.  Candidates chose a type of cancer to represent during the month of April.  They wore the color “assigned” to that type of cancer and shared information to spread awareness.  J.J. agreed to serve as a candidate for this fundraising initiative, representing Kidney Cancer (which was given the color of orange), bringing recognition to TheBANK by raising the most funds of all who participated.

In sum, ACS said this about TheBANK:

“We are honored to partner with you and grateful for all you do to further the mission of the American Cancer Society!”
