Powers to Retire as President of TheBANK of Edwardsville

After 40 years in the banking industry, TheBANK of Edwardsville President and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Powers announced his retirement, effective October 11.

“My wife Jean and I thought long and hard about this decision, and we both agreed that it’s the right time,” said Powers, a recent first-time grandfather. “We’re excited, and to be honest, a little anxious about retirement. But we truly feel that it’s time to take the next step in our lives, and we really look forward to spending more time together as a family.”

Powers, 63, and a native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, helped build Bremer Financial Corp. into a regional power in Minnesota and North Dakota before being named the 13th president of TheBANK in March 2015. During his tenure at TheBANK, Powers led the organization’s first-ever expansion into the St. Louis market in 2016.

The senior management team at TheBANK of Edwardsville thanked Powers for his leadership and support.

“On behalf of our senior management team, we all wish Kevin and his family nothing but the best in retirement,” said TheBANK’s Chief Financial Officer Bob Parker. “We have all valued Kevin’s expertise and vision for TheBANK and have appreciated his continued support of us and the entire staff these past four years. He will certainly be missed.”

On behalf of the entire Busey team, Brian Bjorkman, Regional President of Busey, wished Powers the best in retirement.

“Kevin has had a long and distinguished career in community banking,” said Bjorkman. “His leadership and straightforward approach has led to many great successes, including his time at TheBANK of Edwardsville. We are grateful for Kevin’s contributions to TheBANK and his willingness to support both TheBANK and Busey teams as we join together this fall.”

Powers said he will look back on his time at TheBANK fondly and that he is thankful for all the support he and his family received when they moved to the area.

“It’s been a great four years here,” he said. “I can’t thank the wonderful and dedicated staff at TheBANK and the people throughout our local communities enough for welcoming my family with open arms. We absolutely fell in love with this area from the moment we got here, so much so that we’ve decided to retire here.”

While Powers will retire in October, the rest of TheBANK’s senior management team remains and is working diligently alongside the senior management team at Busey to preserve a local, community banking approach while continuing to serve TheBANK customers with the highest level of service and unique financial solutions necessary for economic and community development.
