TheBANK Getting Better with Age

For more than 146 years, TheBANK of Edwardsville has offered the kind of service that keeps customers loyal. As if that longevity wasn’t testament enough to the fact, since 1990 they’ve expanded beyond Edwardsville and Madison County into St. Clair County and many new communities by virtue of that service.

The ingredients have always been simple: TheBANK of Edwardsville’s strength comes from putting its customers and the communities it serves first.

Over the years that’s meant being one of the leading innovators in banking technology in the area. TheBANK was one of the first in the area to offer drive-through banking, ATMs, and phone banking to customers. Today it has a suite of online banking features, a smartphone and tablet app that allows for on-the-go banking, and the recently introduced Personal Automated Teller machines. Combined with its tried-and-true practice of offering convenient locations for customers who prefer to bank face-to-face, TheBANK has all of your banking needs covered.

TheBANK was founded in downtown Edwardsville in 1868, just after Abraham Lincoln’s presidency. There TheBANK stayed for more than a century until legislation passed in 1976 allowed for banks to open other branches near their home office. Thankfully those laws have relaxed further, and today TheBANK serves 13 communities through 18 locations across Madison and St. Clair County.

With that expansion, TheBANK has brought the same service that’s kept its doors open through both World Wars and the Great Depression to each new community it’s joined. Wherever a new location opens, TheBANK dedicates itself to supporting that community in

a number of ways, from charitable donations, sponsorships and other means of community involvement.

In 2014, TheBANK contributed nearly $500,000 as a corporation to local charities and educational organizations, as well as raising more than $57,000 for other charities including the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society and the United Way.

Since expanding into St. Clair County in 2005, TheBANK quickly became one of the favorite banks for locals. Over the past four years, TheBANK has experience 200 percent growth and is currently the fourth largest bank in terms of deposit market share in the county.  In addition, it has been voted “The Best Bank” in the BND’s Reader’s Poll for the past three years.

“That’s quite an honor for a bank that’s only been here a relatively short time,” Robert Mueller, St. Clair County Market President for TheBANK, said. But, the reason for that is clear.  “We have a great group of people at TheBANK of Edwardsville. They’re the ones that make this a great company,” he said.

And for almost a century and a half the people at TheBANK have been more than just employees; they are their customer’s friends and their neighbors. That’s why being active in each community TheBANK serves has been so important, and that’s also why so many people are discovering how that ethos can make their own banking experience all the better.
